Internationally acclaimed as both a soloist and chamber musician, Alexander Chaushian has appeared with leading orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, Academy of St Martin in the Fields, Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Boston Pops, and the Armenian Philharmonic. His performances have taken place in many of the world’s most prestigious halls, among them Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, Vienna’s Konzerthaus, Milan’s Sala Verdi, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Carnegie Hall in New York, and Symphony Hall in Boston.
A familiar presence on major international festivals, Chaushian is also deeply committed to artistic leadership and musical education. He serves as Artistic Director of the International Pharos Chamber Music Festival in Cyprus and the Yerevan Music Festival in Armenia, contributing actively to the development of chamber music on the international stage.
Born in Armenia, Alexander Chaushian began his musical studies there before continuing his education in the United Kingdom at the Menuhin School and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London. He later completed advanced studies at the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin, graduating with distinction in 2005. His career has been marked by major competition successes, including prizes at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and the ARD Competition in Germany. As an alumnus of Young Concert Artists, New York, he toured extensively throughout the United States.
Chaushian has collaborated with some of the most prominent musicians of our time, including Yehudi Menuhin, Julia Fischer, Yuri Bashmet, Emmanuel Pahud, and François-Frédéric Guy. His long-standing chamber music partnership with pianist Yevgeny Sudbin has resulted in numerous acclaimed performances and recordings.
His discography includes several highly praised recordings for the BIS label, notably with Yevgeny Sudbin, as well as a recent concerto album with the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra, which received outstanding reviews and was named Album of the Week by The Independent.
